Petersen Claims Meet's Top Time|

UNLV's Lauren Petersen finished first overall at the Northridge Invitational Saturday morning held on the campus of Cal State Northridge. Petersen, who led the Rebel contingent to a fifth-place showing, crossed the line in a personal-best time of 21:54.16 in the 6K race. Her time ranks sixth on UNLV's performer list for the distance.
UNLV tallied a total of 107 points in the meet won by UC Santa Barbara (72 points) out of a field of 10 squads. UCSB was led by Laura Beresford (22:04.92) and Bailey Miller (22:16.25), who finished second and fifth, respectively, who aided the Gauchos score. USC finished second overall with 92 points and was paced by Erica Capellino's 22:05.48 third-place time. UC Irvine was third with 92 points, while Cal State Fullerton claimed fourth place with 99 points.
"The ladies ran well today," said cross country coach Khadevis Robinson. "Lauren (Petersen) was the first winner of a race for the Rebels this season. We finished fifth overall with our top five runners finishing well placed. We just have to work on getting them all closer together. We are now excited to prepare for the conference meet!"
Ali Bartosch was UNLV's second-best finisher Saturday with an 18th-place showing and a personal-best time of 22:37.55.
Laura Affeld crossed the line 28th with a time of 22:59.92. A trio of Rebels was bunched together in the 30s with Melissa Cortes coming in 36th (23:09.93) before Larissa Davis (23:11.74) and Amanda Berg (23:14.34) crossed the line back-to-back in 38th and 39th, respectively.
Rounding out the Rebel harriers were Auzsane Crowe-Carter in 64th (24:00.17), Kelsey Williamson in 66th (24:06.99), Brett Zorich in 70th (24:10.41) and Courtney Allen in 96th (25:16.95).
In all, the women's 6K was run by 121 competitors.
UNLV returns to action in two weeks in Fort Collins, Colo., at the Mountain West Championships on Oct. 29.
