Rebels Finish Third In Sacramento

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The UNLV women's cross country team ended its regular season with a third-place finish at the Sacramento State Open, held Saturday morning at Granite Regional Park.
Nevada, Reno won the 5k race with 24 points, followed by Sacramento State with 42, the Rebels with 69 and then American River College with 108 points. Kali Baker of UNR won the meet with a time of 17:33.
Jenni Shearer paced the Rebels, finishing fourth in a time of 18:13 for the best finish of her career. The freshman from Fort Wayne, Ind., has been UNLV's highest finisher in every meet this season. Janessa Hoppe was next for the Rebels, placing 13th with a time of 19:05, followed by Ali Ainsworth (18th, 19:46), Leta Rose (21st, 20:19), Marina Young (25th, 20:33), Katie Hughes (27th, 20:46), Desarae Tyson (31st, 21:27) and Lekeisha Lawson (32nd, 23:58).
Saturday's race was the final tune-up for the Rebels as they head to Fort Collins, Colo., for the Mountain West Conference Championships on Oct. 29.
