SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The UNLV women's cross country team finished seventh at the 2008 Mountain West Conference Championships Saturday in San Diego, Calif. at Mission Bay Park.

The Rebels placed seventh at the championships, same as last season, had four runners who finished in the top 50. UNLV ran amongst eight other teams and a total of 74 runners.

Senior Jenni Shearer led the Rebels on the 6k run, finishing 14th overall with a time of 22:07. Shearer was named to the All-MWC Second Team. Junior Bailey Kuestermeyer finished in 34th place with a time of 23:02. Senior Isabelle Stoate and sophomore Ashley Silva finished behind each other. Silva finished 47th with a time of 23:40 and Stoate finished 48th with a time of 23:49.

UNLV had three freshmen running for their first time in the MWC Championships. Erin Murphy took 63rd with a time of 24:52, Amber Throop finished 73rd with a time of 26:36 and Brett Zorich placed 74th with a time of 28:01.

New Mexico won the team championship with 31 points, as BYU took second with 33 points and Utah took third. Colorado State who won last year took fourth followed by Wyoming in fifth, Air Force in sixth, UNLV seventh, TCU in eighth and host San Diego State in ninth. Junior Angela Wagner from BYU took first overall followed by freshman Lacey Oeding and senior Carolyn Boosey, both from New Mexico.

The Rebels will now look ahead and prepare for the NCAA West Regionals, which will take place on Nov. 15 in Palo Alto, Calif.
