UNLV Announces 2008 Schedule
Aug. 11, 2008
LAS VEGAS - UNLV cross country released its 2008 schedule on Monday and the Rebels are slated to run in four regular season meets and then the Mountain West Conference Championships on Nov. 1, the athletics department announced on Monday
The schedule has a strong California flavor to it, as every meet the Rebels will run in during the regular season, as well as the MWC Championships and NCAA West Regional meet, will be in the Golden State.
"I'm really excited for this cross country season," UNLV head coach Tony Houchin said. "Everyone's summer training has been going well and we all expect a lot out of this young group. With all the newcomers and the few returners we have coming back, I feel we have a strong nucleus of student-athletes that will be very influential on the future of distance running at UNLV."
The Rebels open the 2008 season at the UC San Diego Quad meet on Aug. 29, and will return to San Diego two weeks later for the Aztec Invitational on Sept. 13, which is hosted by San Diego State. The UC Riverside Invitational on Sept. 27 is next for the Rebels, followed by the Santa Clara Invitational on Oct. 18 to close out the regular season.
UNLV will make its third trip to San Diego on Nov. 1 for the 2008 MWC Championships, and the NCAA West Regional meet is Nov. 15, which will be hosted by Stanford in Palo Alto, Calif. The 2008 NCAA Championships will be held in Terre Haute, Ind., on Nov. 24.
