Rebels Begin 2017 Season Saturday|
Sept. 1, 2017
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV cross country team will open up its 2017 season on the road at New Mexico's Lobo Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. The Rebels and Lobos will race against squads from Fresno State, New Mexico Highlands, New Mexico State and UTEP in the collegiate women's open 5K at 8:50 am PT (9:50 am MT) at the UNM North Golf Course.
Seniors Spencer Moore and Lindy Eskin will lead the Scarlet & Gray into the first meet of the year. The duo participated in all six meets last season, and the former has run in 18 total, thus far, in her career compared to 14 by the latter.
"It's good for us to race this course, as we will return here in late October for the Mountain West Championships," said sixth-year head coach Jebreh Harris. It's the first meet of the season for us, so I'm expecting us to execute the race plan and be competitive. It will be great to see how the team works together and with each other for this first race."
UNLV will also send five underclassmen to the Duke City, including sophomore Nicole Snow, who ran in four meets last year. Freshmen Kassidy Deardorff, Skyler Free, Elisa Rovere and Emma Wahlenmaier will compete for the first time as Rebels this weekend.
REBELS AT HOME: The Rebels return to Las Vegas and Craig Ranch Regional Park to host their own UNLV Invitational on September 23. The meet, which begins at 7:15 am with the college/university men's 6K, will be comprised of six races between the high school and collegiate levels. The college/university women's 5K, which UNLV will run in, is slated to start at 8:00 am.
