Rebels Ready To Run|
Sept. 15, 2006
LAS VEGAS - UNLV cross country continues its season this Saturday, traveling to California for the 62nd annual Aztec Invitational at Balboa Park, hosted by San Diego State.
It will be the second-straight meet for the Rebels in the Golden State after they opened their season at UC Irvine last weekend and placed 15th overall. It was the first meet for UNLV under new cross country head coach Tony Houchin.
The Rebels will be paced by sophomore distance runner Jenni Shearer, as she has been the Rebels highest finisher in every meet she has run in during her short career. Last weekend she finished 65th with a 20:19.1 on the 5,000 meter course.
UNLV will be in the invitational field that features a total of 12 teams, including host San Diego State, Arkansas, Cal State Fullerton, Long Beach State, Loyola Marymount and USC.
The meet will begin at 7:30 a.m. (PT) with the 5K People's Race and will be followed by the 5K women's open (8:15 a.m.) and women's invitational (9 a.m.). The morning will conclude with the men competing in the 8K open (9:30 a.m.) followed by the invitational at 10:15 a.m.
