Browning Brings Home Weekly Honor|
Oct. 2, 2007
LAS VEGAS - UNLV cross country runner Charlotte Browning was named the co-Mountain West Conference cross country athlete of the week on Tuesday after she ran one of the fastest times in school history last weekend.
Browning, a native of Addlestone, England, covered the 5k course at the UC Riverside Invite in 17:32.20, the third-fastest time in UNLV history to finish ninth overall at the meet. It was the first time since 2000 that a Rebel runner bested the 18-minute mark and Browning's time on the UC Agricultural Operations course in Riverside, Calif., gave her the fastest time in the 5K distance in the MWC thus far in the season.
This is just the second time in the history of the league that a Rebel student-athlete earned cross country weekly honors as Jenni Lopez earned the honor on Oct. 11, 2000.
Browning shared the weekly award with April Thomas of Colorado State while Jeremy Johnson of New Mexico earned men's honors.
The UNLV cross country team has this weekend off before wrapping up its regular season at the NCAA Pre-National meet, held in Terre Haute, Ind., on Oct. 13.
