LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV Rebels cross country team returns to action this Saturday, Oct. 16, in the Bronco Invitational hosted by Santa Clara University in Sunnyvale, Calif. The women's invitational is slated for a 9:00 am start and will be the first of four events held on the day at Baylands Park, which is located on the southern tip of San Francisco Bay.
In all, there will be 31 teams participating in the quartet of events with 21 represented in the women's invitational 5k, which is said to be run on a fast and flat course.
"This is the last meet before we head into the championship portion of our schedule," noted cross country coach Tony Houchin. "We have come to this meet almost every year since I've been here and will let us know how much we've improved since the beginning of the season. I expect some great performances this weekend."
The Rebels will be led by Lauren Petersen, who has led UNLV's contingent of harriers the past three times out. Petersen finished Loyola's Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational seventh overall with a time of 18:05 in the 5k event on Oct. 2. She ran the fourth-fastest time in program history with a 17:32.9 showing at the UC Rivierside Cross Country Invitational on Sept. 18.
