LAS VEGAS - UNLV cross country wraps up its regular season on Saturday as the Rebels head to California for the fourth time this fall to compete in the Bronco Invitational, which is hosted by Santa Clara and will be run at Baylands Park.
One of the largest meets in the country this season, more than 630 runners overall will compete in four races, with men running an 8k and women running a 5k.
"Santa Clara is a flat, fast course," UNLV coach Tony Houchin said. "We'll be running against some competition that we've seen earlier in the year. I'm anxious to see how we compare after three weeks of great training."
Houchin will field a lineup of 10 student-athletes, including freshman Lauren Petersen, who has run the Rebels' fastest time on a 5k course this season. Petersen turned in a time of 18:34.60 at the UC Riverside Invitational, while senior Bailey Kuestermeyer (19:10.20), junior Shannon Simpson (19:04.30) and freshman Lexie Bravo (19:06.60) turned in sub-20 minute times at that meet.
Courtney Allen, Lucy Beuster, Ali Motor, Samantha Swan, Amber Throop and Amaris Williams will also be running on Saturday for the Rebels. Saturday's meet will be the first one for the Rebels since they competed at the Stanford Invite on Sept. 26.
The Women's Invitational begins at 9:45 a.m. (PT) and includes the following teams: Black Hills State, Boise State, Cal, Fresno State, Hawaii-Manoa, Long Beach State, Nevada, Reno, New Mexico State, Pepperdine, Sacramento State, San Jose State, host Santa Clara, Stanford, UC Davis, San Diego, UNLV, USF and a few unattached runners as well.
