Rebels Host Conference Championships

UNLV's cross country team will compete in the Mountain West's Cross Country Championships on Friday.

LAS VEGAS ( - The 2012 Mountain West Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships will be contested this Friday (Oct. 26) at the Silver Bowl Sports Complex in Las Vegas. The UNLV harriers will compete in the women's 6K at 10:00 am, while the league will host its men's race at 10:40 am.

UNLV, which is coming off a first-place finish at the Northridge Invitational two weeks ago, will enter nine runners in the meet featuring eight other conference teams. The Rebels contingent will be led by Lauren Petersen - the individual winner at the Northridge Invitational. Also running for the Scarlet & Gray will be: Laura Affeld, Courtney Allen, Amanda Berg, Katie Cochran, Auzsane Crowe-Carter, Corey Honeycutt, Miranda Menzies and Sara Williams.

This will be the Rebels first time hosting a conference meet dating back to the 1985 campaign. In '85, UNLV competed in the Big West and finished sixth.

New Mexico enters the competition looking for its fifth consecutive league title. The Lobos have won the past four championships, while UNLV's best finish - fourth place - came during the inaugural year (1999) of the conference.

The Silver Bowl Sports Complex is located at 6800 E. Russell Road in Las Vegas - west of Sam Boyd Stadium.
