LAS VEGAS - UNLV cross country travels to Utah this weekend to compete in the Mountain West Conference Championships on Saturday morning at Rose Park Golf Course on the campus of the University of Utah.

It is a 6k course and it will be the first league meet for Rebel coach Tony Houchin, who is completing his initial season at the helm at UNLV.

The favorite to win the title is BYU as the Cougars have won the last seven MWC titles.

Houchin's crew will be lead by sophomore Jenni Shearer, who has paced the Rebels in every meet she has competed in during her career. Last year Shearer finished 48th at the MWC meet and she covered the course in a career-6k-best time of 23:34. Fellow sophomore Ali Ainsworth will be running in her second conference meet, and she finished 62nd last year with a time of 25:37.

Those two will be the only runners for UNLV who have competed in the cross country championships.

Junior runners Tanesha Carr and Laura Lundin, sophomores Ernestine Johnson and Desarae Tyson and freshman Gabriela Benito all will be running at the MWC Championships for the first time.

The women's race will begin at 9:00 a.m. (PDT) with the men's race following at 10:00 a.m.
