Nov. 14, 2008
LAS VEGAS - - The UNLV women's cross country team is headed to the NCAA West Regional hosted by Stanford on Saturday at the Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Calif.
The women will compete in the 6K race that will begin at 11:00 am (PT) and will feature all Division I teams from Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon and Washington.
"The NCAA West Regional is going to be the most competitive field we'll face this year," said head coach Tony Houchin. "We are hoping to improve from last years team finish and hopefully put some more people on the UNLV top 10 6k list."
Last season the Rebels posted a 26th overall finish at the NCAA West Regional. Jenni Shearer finished 179th with a time of 23:54.15 and Ashley Silva came placed 164 with a time of 23:25.35. This will be the first trip to the West Regional competition for Throop, Murphy and Stoate.
The top two teams and four individuals from the women's 6K race will advance automatically to the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Indiana later on this month.
