Rebel Girls Coaching Staff
Director and Head Coach of the UNLV Rebel Girls...Marca DeCastroverde
After retiring from the head coach position in 2016, Marca DeCastroverde has decided to return to pursue her passion: coaching. DeCastroverde attended UNLV for a Bachelor's degree in Education from 1998-2002 during which time she was a member of the Rebel Girls team and one of the captains. She went on to be the Assistant Coach for two seasons and is now in her thirteenth season as the Head Coach of the UNLV Rebel Girls. Under her coaching, the UNLV Rebel Girls have competed at UDA College Nationals for the past ten years and have been in the top five teams in the nation in D1A Hip Hop and also won two Division 1A Hip Hop national championships. The UNLV Rebel Girls were also ranked in the top three in the Division 1A pom category from 2013-2016. Additionally, during her time as head coach, the team competed in China, taking first place in the the world, and in May of 2014 were seen by millions of viewers when they performed on “America’s Got Talent.” DeCastroverde is in her first year as the Director of the UNLV Company, the first competitive male hip hop crew at UNLV. Prior to this, DeCastroverde was also the Director of the Cheer, Rebel Girls, and Pom programs at UNLV for two years. DeCastroverde trained as a competitive dancer in Missouri. She has also coached at Kenny Guinn Middle School and Foothill H.S in Las Vegas.
Associate Head Coach of the UNLV Rebel Girls...Brandi Slade
Brandi Slade is now approaching her fourth year coaching the UNLV Rebel Girls. She is a proud UNLV alumna who cheered for the UNLV Rebels for four years. During this time Brandi received a Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology. Brandi was a member of the UNLV Rebel Girls from 2010-2014. During these years, she and her teammates consecutively placed in the top five teams at the Universal Dance Association's National Championship in the 1A Hip Hop Division. She and her teammates won the UDA National Championship in the 1A Hip Hop division in 2013. Brandi was also apart of the first team to compete in the 1A Pom division. After graduating she joined the coaching staff as an assistant coach. She continued to coach under the direction of Marca DeCastroverde for three years. Brandi has trained as a competitive dancer in Hawaii and Las Vegas. She has used her vast background in dance to teach and choreograph at numerous dance and cheer programs throughout the Las Vegas community.
Assistant Coach of the UNLV Rebel Girls...Kaitlyn Thompson
After five years of dancing with the Rebel Girls, Kaitlyn Thompson now joins the coaching staff as the assistant coach. She began dancing at the age of four, competing in competitions throughout the west. She was varsity cheer captain at Coronado High School before becoming a Rebel Girl in 2011. During her time as a Rebel Girl, she managed social media, created spirit videos, choreographed dances which were performed at halftime during Rebel games, and took on the role of captain her senior year. Kaitlyn proudly holds two UDA National Championship rings having been a part of both the 2013 and 2016 Division 1A Hip Hop championship teams, and was a part of the first team to compete in Division 1A Pom. During her time on the team, they consecutively placed in the top five in both Division 1A Hip Hop and Division 1A Pom, and top three her final four years on the team.
