ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV softball team swept New Mexico in the Mountain West midweek doubleheader on Wednesday. The Rebels (22-18, 9-5) defeated the Lobos (18-21, 6-8) 8-4 in game one and 3-2 in game two.

Mantha Hatzenbeller led the Scarlet & Gray offense through two games with a combined .571 (4-for-7) including a triple, home run, four RBI and scored a run. Hatzenbeller's home run came in game two in the top of the sixth inning to put the Rebels on top for the series sweep.
Keyannah Chavez and
Rachel Cook each hit a combined .500 (2-for-4) with a double.
Yanina Sherwood collected both wins in the circle for UNLV. In game one, Sherwood pitched 6.0 complete innings allowing only three earned runs. In game two, Sherwood collected the win in relief, pitching 2.1 innings and did not allow a hit or run. Sherwood is now 9-7 on the season.

GAME 1: UNLV 8, New Mexico 4

The first inning was scoreless until the Rebels put up three runs on three hits including two RBI singles to center by
Rachel Cook and
Natalie Turner. In the top of the third inning, UNLV had bases loaded after two walks and a single with two outs.
Lyla Gonzalez was then hit by a pitch to bring in a run and made it 4-0 Rebels. The Lobos scored in the bottom of the third inning on a solo homer to right center, 4-1 With one out in the top of the fourth,
Keyannah Chavez doubled to left center.
Diamond Sefe then drew a walk with two outs.
Mantha Hatzenbeller then tripled to right bringing in both Chavez and Sefe across the plate to make it 6-1.
Taryn Calderon followed with a double to right center, which brought Hatzenbeller home, 7-1. In the top of the fifth inning, UNLV grabbed another run on a bases loaded ground ball and made it 8-1. The Lobos scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI double, 8-2. In the bottom of the seventh, New Mexico scored two more runs on three hits and took advantage of an error and made it 8-4. However, the Rebels sat down the last Lobo batter on a ground ball in front of the plate.

GAME 2: UNLV 3, New Mexico 2

The Rebels took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a Sefe RBI single to center. The Lobos tied the game, 1-all, in the bottom of the second inning after scoring on a Rebels' wild pitch. In the top of the fourth inning, Hatzenbeller roped an RBI single up the middle to give UNLV back the lead, 2-1. However, New Mexico tied the game 2-all in the bottom of the fifth inning after taking advantage of an UNLV error. Hatzenbeller put the Rebels back on top again in the top of the sixth inning with a solo homer to right, 3-2. In the Lobos final at-bats, the Rebels retired them in order with a fly out, strike out and ground out.

OTHER NOTES:
- In game one, Calderon was 2-for-4 with two RBI and scored two runs.
- Cook was 1-for-2 in game one against the Lobos including an RBI, two walks and scored a run.
- The Rebels out-hit the Lobos 11-6.
- UNLV had four doubles on the day, compared to New Mexico's two.
- Chavez is now on an 11-game hitting and on-base streak.
- Turner and Cook are now on five-game hitting streaks. Turner is also on a 17-game reached base streak.
- Bri Williams has reached base in 28 straight games.Â
UP NEXT: UNLV comes home to host Utah State for a two-game series on Saturday, April 11 - Sunday, April 12 for its Strikeout Cancer weekend. The Rebels and Aggies will open the two-game series on Saturday, April 11 at 3 p.m.
